Annoying Drivers to Promote Greener Transit Habits

As someone who doesn’t own a car and relies on a bicycle to get everywhere, last month’s New York Times article, “Across Europe, Irking Drivers Is Urban Policy” piqued my interest. I like the idea of making cities more liveable and less vulnerable to traffic conditions; however, for the various reasons that Rosenthal mentions (not adopting Kyoto, lower gas prices, more lenient policies), I suspect that it will be a significant amount of time before the US can boast of such bike and ped friendly cities.

Maybe electric bicycles will gain popularity and bring us a little closer to our European counterparts? Or at least help cities like San Francisco meet their ambitious goals for increased bicycle commuters…
